I install, service and repair unvented and vented hot water cylinders in Northampton and nearby villages. I'm G3 qualified, which is the qualification you need to fit an unvented cylinder.
What's involved
- Fitting new unvented cylinders, including the expansion vessel, safety valves and discharge pipework.
- Fitting and replacing vented cylinders fed from a cold water tank.
- Yearly unvented cylinder services: checking the expansion vessel, testing the safety valves and checking the discharge pipe.
- Repairs, such as no hot water, low pressure or water dripping from the discharge pipe.
- Small under-sink water heaters.
How long it takes
A like-for-like cylinder swap is usually done in a day. A yearly service usually takes about an hour.
Price

Questions
What's the difference between a vented and an unvented cylinder?
A vented cylinder is fed from a cold water tank, usually in the loft, so the pressure depends on gravity. An unvented cylinder runs straight off the mains, so you get stronger showers and don't need a tank in the loft.
Does an unvented cylinder need servicing?
Yes. Most manufacturers ask for a yearly service to keep the warranty valid, and it keeps the safety devices working properly.
Does an unvented cylinder have to be fitted by a qualified installer?
Yes. Building Regulations require unvented cylinders to be fitted by someone with the right qualification. I'm G3 qualified.
